In this episode of JUNG ON PURPOSE, Debra Maldonado and Dr. Rob explore the concept of Shadow Work and its connection to finding one’s purpose. They delve into Carl Jung’s theories, the role of the persona, and how embracing the Shadow can lead to self-realization and a more authentic life. The discussion also touches on the challenges of individuation and the transformative power of integrating the Shadow.
If you want to become a life coach and wonder how you can help others, listen to our recent JUNG ON PURPOSE podcast episode (previously named Soul Sessions) to explore how our unique Jungian coaching model is the future of coaching.
One of Carl Jung’s most important contributions to personal development is the concept of working with the Shadow. The Shadow is our unconscious aspects of ourselves that do not fit into our societal roles or persona.
The Shadow is both aspects that are too light or too dark, according to the judgment of the ego and society, to be expressed consciously. It is important to note that we have a Shadow because we’ve adapted ourselves to fit in the world.
Reclaiming the Shadow helps us confront the deepest judgments we have of ourselves; it allows us the freedom to express the entirety of ourselves without the need of approval from others.
The reason most of us avoid fully living their purpose isn’t because we don’t know what it is or what we should do, it’s because we instinctively know that we would have to face our Shadow to allow this new self-expression to emerge.
The Ego has many defenses to this process, so most remain in their conditioned patterns their entire life. Shadow Work isn’t about healing the past, but transcending the patterns that keep us from operating from past conditioning.
Ask yourself, what is one thing you’re not willing to give up in order to live your full self-expression?
The answer is what the Ego will use to keep you stuck.
You don’t have to give anything up.
Reclaiming the Shadow activates your creative potential where anything is possible.
