We’ve all felt it.
A moving force inside that fuels intense romantic attraction to another that we sometimes call falling in love.
Love is more than an emotion
Neuroscientists say the feeling is created by your neurotransmitters. Therapists say the feeling is triggering your attachment style or your mother or father issues.
Some spiritualists describe the overwhelming feeling as a sign that you are meant to be together – showing you that this is your soulmate, that one person that is meant for you.
Love is complex and has many layers. There is a physical element, a psychological element and a spiritual element. Depending upon your level of growth, you will experience love in different forms.
A person who hasn’t done any personal growth work that is operating from their surface ego personality will probably experience love as longing, a need to merge with someone to feel complete or compensate for their own sense of lack.
A person who has undergone the process of Individuation from the ego will experience love in a deeper, more evolved way. They will attract a partner from the soul not the ego-level. They see their partner and the challenges in the relationship as opportunities for growth and both take responsibility for their experience in that relationship.
Here is one way to think about it: The depth of intimacy you can experience with your partner can only be matched by the level of depth you are willing to face within yourself.
What do you find was/is lacking in your current/last partnership? How is that a reflection of your own personal growth process?
