In this episode of JUNG ON PURPOSE, Debra and Dr. Rob Maldonado explore the concept of “Father Hunger” and the Father Archetype, discussing their impact on persona and Ego development. Discover the overachieving persona, the internalized father figure and the quest for external validation, emphasizing the importance of turning inward for true fulfillment
If you want to become a life coach and wonder how you can help others, listen to our recent JUNG ON PURPOSE podcast episode (previously named Soul Sessions) to explore how our unique Jungian coaching model is the future of coaching.
You are either an overachiever or a rebel and sometimes a bit of both, but where does this energy come from?
What drives you to overwork, excel on all levels only to feel exhausted or disheartened because there never seems to be a respite on your journey? You may start to forget what you were pursuing in the first place.
If you are the rebellious one, rejecting authority and structure and just want to live through the whims of the day, you may feel rudderless or lack direction and focus.
Both of these qualities can be attributed to the early relationship with the biographical father. We project the power of the Father Archetype onto our own father and the dynamics of power are then shaped within.
When high-achievers chase the dream, sometimes it isn’t about the actual dream, but a “Father Hunger,” a need to please the father and retain connection to power.
In our next podcast episode of JUNG ON PURPOSE, we explore the concept of “Father Hunger” and the Father Archetype, discussing their impact on persona and Ego development. Understand the overachieving persona, the internalized father figure and the quest for external validation, emphasizing the importance of turning inward for true fulfillment.

- The concept of “Father Hunger” and how it drives the need for external validation
- How the Father Archetype shapes our sense of self and success
- Why most overachievers seek external rewards, but lack fulfillment
- How external achievements often mask deeper insecurities
