In this episode of JUNG ON PURPOSE, Debra and Dr. Rob Maldonado explore the concept of the Imago in relationships, discussing how unconscious patterns and archetypes influence our interactions. Understand the dynamics of projection, the role of the ego and the importance of realizing one’s own Imago to improve personal and relational growth. The discussion highlights the transformative power of accessing the collective unconscious and the archetypes within it.

If you want to become a life coach and wonder how you can help others, listen to our recent JUNG ON PURPOSE podcast episode (previously named Soul Sessions) to explore how our unique Jungian coaching model is the future of coaching.

Have you ever experienced a conflict in a relationship and you reacted with an intense emotion that was disproportionate to the actual situation?

Maybe someone said they would contact you or broke a promise and it created panic or fear.

Or, your boss criticized you for a mistake and you reacted in defensiveness for something that wasn’t that big of a deal.

What is happening is that you aren’t reacting to that person but what they represent to you. There is a corresponding inner image that you are projecting onto them from an old relationship and Jung called this the “imago.”

The imago is a mixture of complexes and archetypal power which is why it feels so intense. You touched on a deeper power but your ego has hijacked it and made it personal and put you into survival mode.

What am I assuming about you Who am I turning into around you? What would it be like to meet you as a person, not a pattern?

We go deep into this topic in our new podcast JUNG ON PURPOSE episode, The Imago Effect: How to Transform Your Relationships From Within. We explore the concept of the Imago in relationships, discussing how unconscious patterns and archetypes influence our interactions. Understand the dynamics of projection, the role of the ego, and the importance of realizing one’s own Imago to improve personal and relational growth. The conversation highlights the transformative power of accessing the collective unconscious and the archetypes within it.

In this episode, you’ll discover:

  • How the Imago helps in recognizing unconscious patterns in relationships
  • The ways the Ego plays a significant role in how we interpret and interact with our Imago
  • How accessing the collective unconscious can lead to personal and relational transformation
  • Why projection often distorts our perception of others, impacting relationships
