In this episode of JUNG ON PURPOSE, Debra and Dr. Rob Maldonado explore the concept of the Ego, challenging the notion that it is an enemy. Discover the recent neuroscience research on brain development and how the Ego plays a crucial role in personal growth and self-awareness. They discuss the importance of integrating the Ego rather than erasing it and how it serves as a foundation for deeper exploration into the unconscious.
If you want to become a life coach and wonder how you can help others, listen to our recent JUNG ON PURPOSE podcast episode (previously named Soul Sessions) to explore how our unique Jungian coaching model is the future of coaching.
Have you reached a ceiling of personal growth where you feel like nothing is as impactful as it was when you first started out on your journey?
There are two ways to approach personal growth – ego building and management or ego transcendence. Most popular models focus on ego development and it is an important stage of development.
If you are following us, our guess is that you are a life-long learner and typical ego-building solutions feel like they don’t work anymore.
You have the instinct you have to go deeper…but what most people think as “deep” is working on the ego level, family history and narratives and patterns. It feels cathartic and emotional disguised as real depth but it is still ego-work. There is nothing wrong with building a strong ego but there comes a point when you are ready for the next level of your evolution.
Our ego is like a thin wafer floating on the top of the ocean. You are the ocean.is like focusing on a thin wafer floating at the top of the ocean, when you are the ocean.
Jung’s work is distinct from other models because he includes the collective unconscious in his psychology. Individuation is about moving from ego-centered consciousness to the Self, this larger aspect of who you are.
Now, neuroscience has caught up with Jung showing how the brain changes in different parts of life and how at 32 years old, we begin a new phase of brain development that matches his idea of mid-life transformation.
We go deep into this topic in our new podcast Jung on Purpose episode, What Jung and Neuroscience Reveal About the Ego (and Why It Matters at Midlife) In this episode, we explore the concept of the ego, challenging the notion that it is an enemy.
